Derrel Petty Obituary (1931

Derrel Fredrick Petty passed away on October 19, 2010 at his home in Cedar City, Utah with his loving wife at his side. Derrel lived a long and fulfilling life.He was born February 7, 1931 in Hurricane, Utah to Bryant Petty and Estella Campbell Petty. They moved to Cedar City when Derrel was three years old. He attended Cedar City schools and graduated from Cedar High School in 1949. Derrel had many friends and family here in Cedar City.He married his high school sweetheart, Marie Williams on October 6, 1949. They were blessed with four wonderful children. On December 2, 1961, their marriage was solemnized in the St. George LDS Temple and their children were sealed to them at that time. Derrel worked for Thorley Ford and Parkway Ford for 25 years as a body and fender mechanic. He then worked for Bradshaw Chevrolet for 25 years as their body shop foreman. Derrel was active in the LDS Church, fulfilling many callings " Sunday School President, High Priest Group Leadership, Ward Finance Clerk, Ward Clerk and fulfilled a three year church employment mission in Cedar City with his wife Marie. Derrel loved to spend as much time as he could at the family cabin at Duck Creek, where many memories were made. He spent a lot of time fishing with his father, family and good friends. He could fix almost anything. He was very talented with his hands. He loved to work on cars, haul wood and help his friends and neighbors with any project they had.Derrel is survived by his wife Marie, brother, Clayton Petty, children; Sheila (Bruce) Raftery, Vickie (Brent) Sorensen, Chris (Linda) Petty and Janice (Todd) Kirkham. Also 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Bryant and Estella Petty, three brothers: Bryant Jr., Stewart LaWayne, Neldon Alvin and two sisters: Barbara and Sheila Petty.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cedar City North LDS Stake Center, 95 North 2125 West, Cedar City, Utah. Friends may call on Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Southern Utah Mortuary, 190 North 300 West, Cedar City, Utah. There will also be a viewing at the Cedar City North LDS Stake Center from 9:30-10:30 a.m., prior to services. Interment immediately following at the Cedar City Cemetery, all under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary.A special "thank you" to Dr. Smith, Dr. Jentzer, Dr. Allen, Dr. Assiago, the nurses from IHC Home Health and Hospice: Becky, Donna, Rena and Bonnie for their love and compassionate care and support.
