Nell Thomas Smith, beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and Friend died peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, Feb. 26th, 2013. Nell was born to Richard Reese Thomas and Sarah Barton Thomas on August 21, 1932 in Greenville, Utah, along with her twin brother, Dan. She married the man of her dreams that she fell in love with in the 5th grade, Ross Hal Smith, on May 1, 1951 in the St. George Temple. This May would have been their 62nd wedding anniversary. Nell spent her entire life living and serving in the community of Beaver, Utah. Always a loyal and proud daughter of Beaver County. She graduated from Beaver High in 1950, receiving the B.A.C. scholarship to CSU. Her musical talents throughout high school helped to instill a great love of music that would continue through her entire life. Nell enjoyed 3 terms as a Boy Scout Den Mother and earned Scouters Key. She sang with her ward choir since age 15. Nell organized the Delano Diamonds and sang with the Mello-Tones Quartet at Shrine Auditorium in California. (They made a recording and sold records to raise money for the remodeling of the old East Ward Church.) She organized the Civic Arts Council and assisted in the renovation and remodeling of the old Court Room to accommodate plays and theater. She was instrumental in the Opera House productions of many Broadway musicals. Brigadoon, South Pacific, My Three Angels and Camelot were some of the productions performed. Nell loved being a Sterling Scholar Judge for 9 years for Performing Arts category in Southwest Utah and organized the Junior Golf Program at Canyon Breeze Golf Course. Nell generously offered her beautiful singing voice at many functions: funerals, weddings, athletic events and freely gave of her talent wherever and whenever needed. Nell loved to golf and play tennis and traveled the world with Hal to 29 countries and sailed all seven seas and came to love and appreciate many cultures and countries. She and Hal raised a family of 3 boys and 1 girl, together with Beavers wonderful school system, teachers and citizens of Beaver. Nell loved and honored her country, teaching her children to appreciate the freedom this great land offers. She was, without any doubt, proud to be an American and citizen of Beaver. Her heart always drew her back to Beaver with her friends and family. We are certain a joyous reunion is taking place above as Nell is reunited with those that preceded her in death.
